The Master of Physiotherapy course is a 2-year fulltime program leading to the degree that equips the student with analytical, evidence based learning skills. The program is generic in nature and has a component of additional learning of one area leading to an elective in that area.
At the end of the completion of Master of Physiotherapy, the Postgraduate will be able to:
Candidates admitted into the Master of Physiotherapy course should have passed the BPT degree examination with a minimum of 40% aggregate to appear for the entrance exam. The entrance exam will be conducted in the month of June every year.
The duration of the certified study for the Master of Physiotherapy course shall be a full time course extending over a period of two academic years for the award of the degree.
I YEAR MPT will have the following subjects:
i)Basic Sciences which includes Biomechanics, Exercise/Electrophysiology, Physical and Functional diagnosis.
ii)Research Methodology and Biostatistics.
II YEAR MPT will have the following subjects:
Srinivas University will be providing the following electives:
– Manual therapy
– Sports physiotherapy
Each elective will have 6 seats with a total number of 36 seats.
University examination will be conducted at the end of every academic year.
1st YEAR MPT:
PAPER 1: BASIC SCIENCES (100 MARKS)
PAPER 2: RESEARCH METHODOLOGY AND BIOSTATISTICS (100 MARKS)
PRACTICAL I- 100 MARKS
2nd YEAR MPT:
PAPER 1: PHYSIOTHERAPEUTICS (100 MARKS)
PAPER 2: ELECTIVE (100 MARKS)
PAPER 3: RECENT ADVANCES (50 MARKS)
PRACTICAL II- 100 MARKS
DISSERTATION- 50 MARKS
>75%- I CLASS WITH DISTINCTION (1ST ATTEMPT)
60-75%- I CLASS
>50%- II CLASS
Physiotherapists can obtain a doctorate degree and become involved in research.
Physiotherapists that demonstrate a high level of skill, knowledge and competence in their work may find many opportunities for growth, such as moving into supervisory or management positions, teaching positions, or they may decide to open their own, independent physiotherapy clinic or service.
Physiotherapists are required in each department of a hospital, be it ICU or geriatrics, and they can also choose to work independently or be part of a multidisciplinary team. Some hospitals choose to pay physiotherapists according to the number of patients he or she sees. Initial remuneration of physiotherapists varies from place to place. In India, the starting salary ranges from Rs. 7,000 to Rs.30,000 per month. Generally, private hospitals provide remuneration ranging between Rs. 5,000 to Rs.15,000 per month for a fresher.
In government hospitals, a Junior Physiotherapist can earn approximately Rs. 30,000 per month. The progression in designations is Physiotherapist followed by Senior Physiotherapist earning about Rs. 45,000 per month, followed by Superintendent earning about Rs.60,000-70,000 per month and then Chief Physiotherapist earning about Rs.80,000 per month.
The average salary for teaching jobs in Physiotherapy varies from Rs. 10,000 to Rs.40,000 per month. The remuneration for established private practitioners can be nearly Rs. 20,000 to Rs.40,000 per month. Physiotherapists can also start their own private practice. Remuneration for Physiotherapists abroad varies from Rs. 50,000 to Rs.2,00,000 per month.
