B.Tech in Nano Technology. Introduced for the first time in Karnataka recognized by AICTE New Delhi approved by Govt. of Karnataka and affiliated to Srinivas University, Mangaluru(VTU), Belagavi.
Duration of the course: 4 Years (8 semesters).
About the course: Nano Technology UG program under Srinivas University, Mangaluru is an innovation in modern education system. Nano technology is a multidisciplinary field that currently recruits approach, technology and facility available in conventional as well as advanced avenues of engineering, physics, chemistry and biology. At present there are more than 2000 industries working on nano technology and its applications. The present industrial revolution in nanotechnology needs the well trained man power to meet the need. The goal of this program is to produce man power to meet the industrial demands, to teach the next generation about nanotechnology, and to produce entrepreneurs.
‘NANO’, the biggest ever seen!!!.: The popularity of nano technology is because of its potentiality in replacing the existing limitations of the “macro” scaled materials. Altering the atoms does change the properties of the material and this can be used in overcoming the drawbacks of the materials.
Sometimes working on something small can lead to a big career. That is true for engineers working in nano technology, where new discoveries—and applications for them—are constantly being made, leading to plenty of job opportunities. The carrier opportunities after B.Tech in Nano Technology includes jobs in industries (more than 250 in India; more than 1000 abroad), higher education (Universities: more than 30 in India and more than 250 abroad offering master degree and doctoral degrees), and R&D (more than 10 central institutes in India and more than 200 abroad; the main R&D works in all research centres are related to nano science and technology).
Govt. of India approved the launch of ‘Nano Mission’ in May 2007, in view of promoting the importance of the field as well as inspiring more amount of research to be done in the field. New research and educational centres are getting established every year creating central government jobs.
Why Nano Technology?: The idea of nano technology first came from the physicist Richard Feynman who imagined the entire Encyclopaedia Britannica could be written on the head of a pin. Nano technology is a topic that spans a range of science and engineering disciplines. It takes place at on a tiny scale – larger than the level of atoms and molecules, but within the range of 1-100 nano metres. The nanometre scale is about a billionth of a metre and things this small can behave quite weirdly. These unusual physical and chemical characteristics come about because there is an increase in surface area compared to volume as particles get smaller and also because they are subject to quantum effects. This means they can behave in different ways and do not follow the same laws of physics that larger objects do.
Some of the nano technology based products and company in parenthesis is as follows: Nanotope 26 (TopChim), Altuglas ShieldUp (Arkema), Nanofilm (Nanofilm), NG 2010 (Nanovation), Pilkington Activ (Pilkington Glass), SGG Nano (Saint-Gobain Glass), Sun Control Window Films (3M), Bioni Roof (Bioni CS), Nanogel Thermal Wrap (Cabot), Bioni Perform (Bioni CS), Cerablak (Applied Thin Films), CETOSIL Acrylate Nanocomposite Coatings (Cetelon), Lignol (Nanovations), NANOBYK UV absorber (BYK), NANOBYK-3650 Additives (BYK), Nanomyte Coating (NEI Corporation), SurfaPore (NanoPhos), X-SEED 100 (BASF), Nanovations 3001 (Nanovations), Sandvik Nanoflex Steel (Sandvik Materials Technology), Nanomyte Coating for Steel (NEI Corporation), NH 2015 (Nanovations), Super Hard Steel (SHS) Alloy Thermal Spray (NanoSteel), LiteWire (CurTran), ConFINE Fines Fixing Agent (Baker Hughes), NPD Solutions Fracturing Fluid (FTS International), Dynalene FC (Dynalene), BEI Cathode (Bing Energy), Membrane Assembly Material (Bing Energy), NANOWEB Advanced Nanofiber Technology Dust Filter (Hollingsworth & Vose), CENTROSOL HiT (CentroSolar Glas), SANTE Nanoparticle Coating (Cima Nanotech), TCO Film (Asahi Glass), REWITEC Nanocoating (REWITEC), Graphene Anode Active Material (Tagray), Lithium-Ion Battery (Altairnano), Lithium-ion Battery (Envia Systems), Nano-structured Lithium Titanate (Altairnano), SEPARION Ceramic Separator Membrane (Evonik Industries), Silicon anode Li-ion battery technology (Nexeon), NanoCap (Dais Analytic), SkeletonC Ultracapacitor (Skeleton Technologies), NanoCeram (Argonide), NanoClear (Dais Analytic), Ultra-Web (Donaldson Filtration Solutions), Magnetic Foam (Advanced Magnetic Technologies & Consulting Group (AMT&C)), Nanogel (Cabot), CeraMem (Veolia Water Solutions), Ecosphere Ozonix (Ecosphere Technologies), GreenCat (VeruTEK), TopScreen DS13 (TopChim), NANOWEB Advanced Nanofiber Technology (Hollingsworth & Vose), NanoCeram-PAC (Argonide), Nanofiltration Systems (Eurodia), Pleximer (NaturalNano), Ultradur High Speed (BASF), NANOPERM Softmagnetic Alloy (Magnetec), VITROPERM, Nanomagentic Alloy (VAC Vacuumschmelze), Nanogel (Cabot), NEETcoat Electrothermal Heating System (NanoRidge Materials), nGlide (NanoMech), IHC Nanocrystalline Coatings (Industrial Hard Carbon), NANOBYK-3650 Additives (BYK), Teslan CNT (Tesla Nanocoatings), TuffTek (NanoMech), Nanocubic Technology (Fujifilm), Nanofilm (Nanofilm), Thermal Barrier Coating (Applied Thin Films), Adhesion Coatings for Copper (Aculon), Core Processor Family (Intel), OMAP 5 Processors (Texas Instruments), Phenom II Processor (AMD), UniPhier (Panasonic), LED (glo), Carbon Nanotube Cathodes (Xintek), NanoTIM (TTM), Ultipleat SP DR Filter Cartridge (Pall Corporation), FIBRIL Nanotubes (Hyperion Catalysis), Ketac Nano Light-Curing Glass Ionomer, Restorative (3M Espe), Verigene System (Nanosphere), nano-screenMAG (Chemicell), Nanoparticle RNAi Reagent (AparnaBio), Nanotrap ESP Particles (Ceres Nanosciences), Verigene Nucleic Acid Test (Nanosphere), Field Emission X-ray (XinRay Systems), Emulsiphan/EmPAC (Cornerstone), FluidCrystal NP (Camurus), fluidMAG (Chemicell), KI-1003 Chemotherapeutic (Kereos), Nanoencapsulation for Drug Delivery (ANP Technologies), Phospholipid Platform (Axialys), Polymer Nanospheres (Aphios), PuraMatrix (3DM), SuperFluids Protein Nanoparticle Process (Aphios), MultiCare NanoSpray (NanoMech), Aurimune (CytImmune), nanOSS Bioactive (Pioneer Surgical), nanoXIM-med (Fluidinova), NanoXray (Nanobiotix), PuraMatrix (3DM), Nanofilm (Nanofilm), SAMP Coating (Aculon), UNCD (Advanced Diamond Technologies), Carbon Nanotube Femtosecond Laser (Alnair Labs), ZERODUR Zero Expansion Glass Ceramic (Schott), NanoSphere (Schoeller Technologies), TextileProof 250 (Holmenkol), Sandvik Nanoflex (Sandvik Materials Technology), XTI (XTI), MagSilica Adhesive Additive (Evonik Industries), ZERODUR K20 (Schott), NANOWEB Advanced, Nanofiber Technology (Hollingsworth & Vose), CNT-Modified Molding Compound (Evonik Industries), CeramiClear (PPG Industries), Color Stable Window Film (3M), Advanced High Strength Steel Sheet (AHSS) (Nanosteel), FIBRIL nanotubes (Hyperion Catalysis), Nano-Blend Orange Oil Rubber (Yokohama Rubber), NANOHITEN (JFE Steel), NANOBYK-3650 Additives (BYK), NANOBYK-3650 Additives (BYK), Nanomyte Coating for Automotive (NEI Corporation), REWITEC Coating (REWITEC), etc.
