The National Medical Commission (NMC) curates the MBBS curriculum, which is divided into three main phases:

Pre-Clinical Phase: Focuses on fundamental sciences with subjects like: Anatomy (including Microanatomy, Embryology, and Genetics), Physiology & Biochemistry
Para-Clinical Phase: Builds upon the foundational knowledge with subjects such as: Pathology, Microbiology & Pharmacology Community Medicine (including statistical analysis, epidemiology) Forensic Medicine & Toxicology Clinical Phase: Focuses on applying medical knowledge to patient care with subjects and specializations including: Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Dermatology and Venereology, Ophthalmology, Psychiatry, Orthopaedics, Anaesthesiology

Compulsory Internship: Following the completion of the 4.5-year academic program, a compulsory 1-year internship period is mandatory. This provides hands-on clinical experience in various hospital settings. Subject Breakdown by Year (General Overview)
First Year: Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry

Second Year: Community Medicine, Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Forensic Medicine, and Toxicology

Third & Fourth Years: Focus shifts to clinical subjects and specializations, including Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, ENT, and Ophthalmology.

Course Duration

5 1/2 years which includes 4 1/2 years of study in the college followed by one year of compulsory rotatory internship.

Course Eligibility

To be eligible for an undergraduate (UG) Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program, a student must be at least 17 years old and have passed Class 12 (or equivalent) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English, securing a minimum percentage in these subjects (e.g., 50% for General category). He must also qualify the NEET-UG entrance exam, with admissions based on NEET rank and the subsequent counselling process.
