Administrative Office No.: 0824-2425966

Duration:

The duration of the programme is set for a period of 2 years.

Eligibility:

The eligibility criteria entail holding a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Cardiac Care Technology or Cardiovascular Technology, coupled with completion of a 1 year internship in the field.

Introduction:

Heart disease is the most prevalent medical condition observed in patients of all age groups. Among the various diagnostic tests used to identify cardiac disease, the echocardiogram is a vital diagnostic tool in cardiology, offering detailed insights into the heart's anatomy and function. An echocardiogram, commonly referred to as an "echo," is a non-invasive diagnostic test that uses ultrasound waves to create images of the heart. It provides detailed information about the heart's structure and function, helping physicians diagnose and monitor various cardiac conditions. There are various types of echocardiograms, including Transthoracic Echocardiogram (TTE), Transoesophageal Echocardiogram (TEE), Doppler Echocardiogram, Stress Echocardiogram, and 3D Echocardiogram.

Learning Objectives:

  • Basic cardiac diagnostic procedures like Electrocardiography, Treadmill Test, and 2D Echocardiography
  • Basic principles of 2D Echocardiography and Doppler Echocardiography
  • The role of echocardiography in diagnosing and managing various congenital heart diseases, ischemic heart disease, and valvular heart disease
  • Special techniques like Contrast Echocardiography, Transoesophageal Echocardiography, and Stress Echocardiography
  • Advanced echocardiography techniques like Speckle-Tracking Echocardiography and 3D Echocardiography
  • Clinical rounds with off-site camp exposure

Objectives:

  • To study the Foundation of Cardiology and echocardiography.
  • To improve the knowledge through clinical exposure and research.
  • To study in depth about Echocardiography and develop expertise in the subject.
  • Develop and learn efficient teaching techniques to become an ideal teacher.
  • Develop leadership qualities and contribute to the society.

Special features::

The course offers an extensive curriculum that covers both fundamental and advanced aspects of echocardiography. Students receive practical training through clinical rounds and hands-on sessions, allowing them to gain real-world experience in performing and interpreting echocardiograms. Students have the opportunity to engage in research projects, contributing to advancements in cardiovascular diagnostics and gaining valuable research experience.
