A team of physiotherapy Postgraduate students along with faculty excelling in Sports Physiotherapy was deployed to provide on-site physiotherapy care and support during the Karnataka State Olympics Badminton Tournament organised by the Karnataka State Government on 21st and 22nd of January 2025 at KMC Marena indoor sports complex, Mangalore. This initiative provided students with hands-on experience in managing sports injuries, offering first aid, and maintaining the physical well-being of athletes participating in the event.The objective of this initiative was:The physiotherapy team was made up of the following members:Team Leaders: Dr. R. Kamalakannan and Dr. Madhuripu P, Associate Professors, Institute of Physiotherapy.PG Students: Flavia Kennady and Sandhyarani Sahoo.Throughout the event, the physiotherapy students were responsible for:On-Field First Aid: Providing immediate care for any injuries sustained during competition, such as sprains, muscle strains, or joint dislocations.Injury Assessment: Conducting assessments to determine whether an athlete could continue competing or needed further treatment.Liaising with Medical Professionals: Collaborating with the event's medical team for more serious injuries requiring advanced care.To give physiotherapy students practical experience in a real-world sports setting.To enhance the teamwork and communication skills of physiotherapy students within a multidisciplinary sports environment.Outcomes:Professional Development: The students gained invaluable hands-on experience, learning how to respond to sports injuries and dealing with the physical demands of a high-intensity environment.Improved Confidence: The experience enhanced the students' confidence in their clinical skills, particularly in a fast-paced, high-pressure setting.Positive Feedback from Athletes: Many athletes appreciated the quick response and professional support provided by the physiotherapy team, contributing to their performance and recovery.Collaboration with Medical Team: The physiotherapy students successfully worked alongside doctors, trainers, and event organizers, contributing to a comprehensive care system.
